RE: Support the slides?

Trailer mfg don't recommend supports under modern powered slides. Your trailer mfg can give you there yes/no recommendations. As the trailer settles supports under the slide can and has caused issues with slide in/out adjustments.

RE: Tow vehicle tire advice

70-80 psi in a 1/2 ton OEM wheel that rated in the 55-60 psi range ?? Best check your wheel mfg and see what they say about over pressure a load carrying wheel.

RE: Power service winter blend

I use the white jug in the winter (below freezing) and silver jug in the summer. Check out Power Service website for differences.

RE: Travel Trailer Tires

My Maxxis dealer pushes Maxxis Bravo UE-168 commercial tires in a few 14" sizes from 1875 up to 2271 lbs capacity/D load range for customers trailers. These come with a Euro 225/70-15"C designation. C = commercial use = trucks/vans/cars/trailers. Same with 15" sizes with 3 load range D tires .... 215/70-15C"...2271 lbs 225/70-15C"...2469 lbs 235/70-15C"...2335 lbs Of course as most folks know the LT doesn't come in all sizes as ST tires nor will the same size LT have the same capacity as a ST tire. OP never gave his tire size/load range so he may need a 14"/15"/16"/17.5" size tire with a P or C/D/E/F/G/H load range.

RE: Shocks

Our 1st 5th wheel rv trailer was a new 1984 29' Aljo (no shocks) 4400 lb tandem axles rear bath pulled with a 2500 chevy 5.7 engine 4L-60 tranny. This trailer pulled easy with no bucking. A empty flat bed GN/pintle/bumper ball trailer can kick occupants in the cab even with my one ton drw trucks. However every trip all the contents cabinets/drawers in the rear bath were scattered every where. In 1990 I added shocks (Kit from Monroe) on each axle. Ride in the cab had no change but no more contents scattered in the rear bath. Our last two 5th wheel rear kitchen rv trailer came with shocks. No issues with ride or shook up contents in the rear kitchen. Small Light weight trailers (rv or non rv) with lighter axle capacities probably don't need shocks.

RE: How important is 90 degree turning?

I really want to do with the standard B&W hitch in my F-350 with the 6'11" bed. OP has the truck and trailer so no need to hijack his question with more mindless "gotta' have a long bed truck non sense". OP you have the combo so make some 90 degree street corners and watch how it goes. You'll find the cab/trailer gets closer faster while making backing maneuvers. That size bed and the newer trailers with the rounded/notched front corners won't need any help unless the pin is located too far forward of the trucks rear axle. Then make a decision if a sliding hitch or Andersen or PullRite type GN ball hitch or one of the rotating pin box brands that can be used with your B&W conventional hitch.

RE: Travel Trailer Tires

Reading the posts...........is there any reason for me to suggest Goodyear Endurance tires? I've heard good things about Maxxis tires, but I'm gonna hang with Goodyear. Goodyear Endurance has been out around the 6 year mark now and has a much better service record than Maxxis ST8008 did at their 6 year mark. The biggest neg on the Endurance is its very thin tread at 8/32" which works fine for the majority of rv trailering public who will never wear the tire down to the tread bars. But expensive for those who travel 12k-15k plus miles a year. Of course trailer weight/tire maintenance has much to do with tire service life.

RE: Looking at used 2023 Chevy HD 2500, Duramax

sound like a fair deal for a pre owned '23 2500 LTZ DMAX/A. 2500 GM diesel trucks can come with up to 11550 gvwr and higher rated 6600 rawr . Rawr will carry all the pin weight and other stuff in the bed so the rucks chassis and the DMAX/A will have no issues with a 12k 5th wheel trailer. My neighbor has the same in a '22 model and pull my fully loaded 36' tri axle 21k lbs stock trailer with ease. If your trailer has the notched/rounded front corners made for short bed trucks I doubt you need a sliding hitch if the pin is located zero over the trucks rear axle. GM has a 43" C/A dimension (cab to trucks rear axle)...longer than Rams or Fords C/A.

RE: Travel Trailer Tires

All four of my rv trailers came with 15"/16" ST type tires. I've always sold them and went with 15" P tires on 3500 lbs axles and 16"LT E tires on 5.2/6k axles. This way I can run 45k/55k miles over 7-8 years with no issues at any speed. On my non rv trailers with 7k-8k axles I use commercial grade all steel ply carcass 16" ST S637 Sailun load G. Also trouble free and easily go 60k miles in 7-8 years. Good tire brands depends on my trailer OEM axle/tire size and load range capacities plus a good 10-15 percent reserve capacity.

RE: Leaky Plumbing & Winter Living Prep Questions

WE lived in a 29' 5th wheel trailer with a 13' super slide for one winter while our new home was being built. Temps here in our part of Oklahoma that winter was down in the 5 below zero and 40 mph winds. I used mobile home skirting all around. I made my own insulated/fresh thermostat temp controlled water hose with no issues ....google is a good source for how to make a good heated water hose and other tricks for rv trailer winter time living. I made 11 inside storm windows from 1/8" Lexan 4' X 8' sheets from Lowes. I had a rv dump installed in my home septic tank. I made about 25' of 4" PVC pipe for my black/grey tank drain. No issues. The trailer was a typical 3 season unit with R7 walls/floor/roof so interior sweating was a huge issue. WE tried cracking a vent/window but all that did was make a cold drafty camper and central heater running 24/7. The only relief we found from sweat was using two dehumidifiers. I can't speak for your heating unit but as one poster says have a stand by heat source ready. Good luck.

RE: Truck or Tahoe

Something sounds wrong with the 5.3 1500 trucks tow rating. The wifes '16 1500 chevy crew cab 5.3 6 speed 3.42 gears 4wd has a 9200 lb tow rating. I would think the newer 2018 1500 GMC 5.3 would be close/same to the chevy tow ratings.

RE: Tires

From Goodyear tires "Storing your RV" website; https://www.goodyearrvtires.com/tire-storage.aspx Much has to do with how long several months will be....surface type and of course shade them from direct sun. " My 11400 gvwr rv trailer sit in its shed for 6-7 months (winter storage) on limestone 1" crusher run with 2" X 8" under 16" LT E tires. I keep the tires pumped to max sidewall 52 weeks a year.

RE: How many EVs is GM actually selling?

we've done the drill baby drill thing and sell crude on the world market.....at world market prices. Right now rigs on my oil rights leases are shut down waiting for higher crude prices so drilling more wells doesn't mean more crude = low fuel prices at the pump. WE had a crude glut but oil producers slowed production rate to keep crude prices up. ICE will be around for many more years. IMO There is a place for EV's especially in large meto areas.

RE: F-250 vs F-350

We are likely going to buy a new Ford with the 7.3 V-8 and 373 axles. We tow a 2 Horse Living Quarters aluminum trailer that weighs 5500 empty and has a 10,000 max GVW. Our question is would the F-250 have a smoother ride than the F-350 when not towing? There is no chance that we will want a larger trailer so a heavier upgrade in the future is not an issue. Currently we tow the trailer with a 2001 Dodge 2500 4x4 with a 5.9 diesel. Gotta' do your home work when looking at F350 srw and expecting more payload than the F250. Ford gives the F350 SRW around 19 different GVWR s ranging from 10000 lbs up to 12400 lbs and three different rawrs at 6340/6780/7230 lbs rated. The F250 can come with 7 different gvwrs from the same 10000 gvwr up to 11200 gvwr with the same 6340 rawr. As many Ford folks know there is a big over lap in gvwrs and rawrs with Fords Super Duty line up. Looking at Fleet Fords weight specs shows a different number of leafs in the super duty rear spring pack which may affect ride quality or difference.

RE: Truck / 5th Wheel Combo - Do the numbers add up?

Iā€™m looking at a Cougar 290RLS Dry Wt 10,124 lbs Hitch 1,805 GVWR 12,200 Length 33ā€™8ā€ The new gen F250 7.3 gasser 6340 rawr will make a fine part time/full time tow vehicle for a 12,200 gvwr 5th wheel rv trailer. If your looking at 14k+ lb 5th wheel rv trailer then a F350 srw with the heavier duty 7230 rawr would be a better choice.

RE: Ram 2500 6.4 gas Towing 5th wheel.

One of our long time members posted this about his then new 2014 2500 Ram with rear coils vs his older '07 3500 srw towing his 12k lb 5er (with both.) *** ib516 Way up north eh Senior Member Joined: 04/18/2003 Posted: 10/05/18 12:32pm Link | Quote | Print | Notify Moderator I hooked a 14k 5er to my coil sprung 2500 and it sat level. I regularly towed a 12k 5er with no issues. In fact, the 2014 2500 with coils sagged less with the same 5er than my 2007 3500 SRW did with Torklift Stableloads installed. Here's a 12k 5er that's 37 feet long with 3 slides (one of which is over the pin) and all stock rear suspension...IIRC, the pin weight was right around 2000# when I weighed it.*** Seems hauling tall top heavy truck campers with the 2500 Ram rear coils gets the most negative opinions.

RE: Curt E16 Hookup Question

The sliding bar type I had years back was a safety catch behind a claw type hitch jaw. The pin rests against the half round claw....the sliding bar slide behind the claw keeping the claw closed around the pin. In 8 years no noise. jaw type I'm not familiar with Curts E16 jaw type. OP...I would suggest dropping by the selling dealer shop and let them show/explain the proper procedures for this particular hitch. 5th wheel hitches use several different jaw type systems even in the same brands. I'm wondering if the OP is referring to Curts E16 sliding rail hitch for short bed trucks.

RE: TT Wear on one tire..only took few short trips

It could be one, or more than one, of several issues. Your on the road so drop by a truck tire dealer with the camper. I've found they know more about tire wear issues on trailers than a rv dealer or car tire dealer down on the corner. If its just a bad tire or loose bearing or loose wheel lugs... they can fix those issue. If a bent axle a big rig trailer repair shop can bend the axle back to specs quickly and get you on your way.

RE: TPMS - Tire Pressure Increase

Tire pressure increases while traveling. In researching I have seen where a 25% increase in pressure is fine. So at 65PSI I could expect to see pressure up to around around 81 and all should be good. Any thoughts on this? When I was on the road pulling non rv trailers for living we had no TPMS or inferred temp guns. We used a tire thumper at every stop and felt the tires by hand looking for one that was much hotter or low pressure. If one tire is hotter than the others check its pressure. Several of reasons one tire may run hot and higher psi that a nominal pressure/temps of tires on that vehicle.
